“How would YOU vote?” — method and privacy
What happens
You answer Yea or Nay before the page reveals your representative’s recorded vote. Afterward, the page shows the visitor tally.
What the server stores
- vote ID and Yea/Nay answer;
- optional first three ZIP digits;
- a one-way secret-keyed browser-token hash to enforce one response per browser per vote;
- short-lived secret-keyed IP hashes for abuse controls.
It does not store your name, email, street address, full ZIP Code, raw browser token, or raw IP address.
Geographic privacy
ZIP3 totals are never returned or displayed. A state slice appears only after 50 answers from that state. A ZIP3 contributes to a state only when every official Census ZCTA relationship under that prefix maps to the same state; ambiguous cross-state prefixes are withheld.
Your personal agreement score
Your answers and agreement score stay in this browser’s local storage. The server never receives the representative ID, representative position, agreement result, or score. A percentage appears only after three comparable Yea/Nay answers for that representative. Clearing site storage clears the score.
Limits
Deleting the anonymous cookie or using another browser can create another identity. Rate limits reduce automated stuffing, but no voluntary website tally becomes representative merely because it is large.
