Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Undastandable collects, why, and what choices you have. We keep it in plain English wherever we can.
Last updated: September 24, 2026. This site is operated by Undastandable ("Undastandable", "we", "us"), based in California, United States.
1. Information we collect
- Email address — when you join the email list, create an account, or buy something. Account emails are stored in our database; magic-link login uses your email to sign you in. Email-list signups are saved in a private file on our server and emailed to us. Right now, signing up does not send you any email.
- Messages you send us — the contact, topic request and suggestion forms. The full message and your email are saved in a private file on our server and emailed to us so we can read and answer them.
- Purchase information — when you buy, payment is processed by Stripe. We receive your email and the order details, but we never receive or store your full card number — Stripe handles that directly under their own privacy policy.
- Content you submit to the tools — YouTube links, pasted transcripts, and text you enter into our tools. To produce a result, that content is sent to the third-party processors that power the feature (see Section 3).
- Technical data — your IP address is used briefly to prevent abuse and enforce rate limits (it is stored in a short-lived, hashed form, not tied to your identity), plus standard server logs.
- In-browser storage — some tools save your drafts in your browser's local storage. That data stays on your device and is not sent to us unless you choose to export or submit it.
2. How we use it
- To provide the service you asked for and generate your results.
- To process payments and deliver what you purchased.
- To send emails you requested (and important account or purchase notices).
- To prevent abuse, fraud, and runaway costs, and to keep the service running.
- To improve our tools and content.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Third parties we share data with
We share only what's needed to run the service, with providers acting on our behalf:
- Stripe — payment processing.
- OpenRouter and the AI models it routes to (such as DeepSeek) — to generate summaries, drafts, and analysis from the content you submit.
- Supadata — to retrieve video transcripts you request.
- Google / YouTube (YouTube Data API) — to search for and look up videos you request.
- U.S. Census Bureau — when you type a street address into the Voter Tool, it is sent to the Census Bureau's address lookup to find your district. We do not save the address.
- AWeber — only if you sign up on our free email course page, whose form AWeber provides.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, users, or the service.
4. Cookies and tracking
We use browser local storage to make the tools work (for example, saving your in-progress drafts). We do not run third-party advertising trackers. Our own cookies keep you signed in, count your 3 free uses a month, and stop people voting twice in the Voter Tool's polls. See our Cookies page for the full list.
5. Data retention
We keep account and purchase records as long as your account is active or as needed for legal, tax, and accounting purposes. Rate-limit and abuse-prevention data is short-lived. You can ask us to delete your account data (see Section 7).
6. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Payment card data is handled by Stripe, not stored by us. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
7. Your rights and choices
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you can unsubscribe from emails at any time. To make a request, email support@undastandable.com.
California residents: under the CCPA/CPRA you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information. Submit requests to the email above.
8. Children
Undastandable is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
9. International users
We operate from the United States. If you use the service from elsewhere, your information is processed in the U.S. and other countries where our providers operate.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The "last updated" date above reflects the current version, and material changes will be posted here.
